When the world is worried about sustainable development, we need to build our understanding of issues that concern us, interests us or bother us. Meera, a revered protagonist from our history and an ardent devotee of Lord Krishna, came from Merta city of Rajasthan. She was married to a royal in her adolescence and was widowed too early.
What is lesser known to the world is her audacity. She defied all evil social practices of those times choosing her path of a doting servant to her beloved lord who she betrothed also. She never allowed herself to be a prisoner of people’s frame and blame. She left Rajasthan to live as a recluse and follow her calling.
Her poetic renditions are not only expressions of her deep love for the lord but have become an integral part of the literary ages. We draw our inspiration from her life, depth, determination, and devotion. ‘What is in a name’ and who all matter to Meera?
Well, as part of our approach, unlike the popular practice in media, we wish more girls and young women from rural and small towns to hold the pen and share their thoughts and stories from their lens. And we shall create more space for public service and solution journalism for deepening our roots of inquiry and finding the truth.
Also, the men and the voices on the margin find a good place with us. People with disabilities shall be inseparable and integral to this endeavor as they would access this newspaper without a digital barrier. We have chosen written words as a medium to reach you as in Latin they say Verba volante, Scripta magenta meaning spoken words may fly but written will remain.
